1-2-1 Tuition

I am extremely pleased to finally offer tailored 1-2-1 tuition sessions.  These sessions, taking in some of Dorset’s most stunning locations, will be tailored to your current level of photography and your individual requirements and objectives. We can work together to decide on your preferred locations and the learning areas of most importance but will usually cover a selection of the following during the session.

   - Planning (location, shoot and weather)
   - Mastering the ‘Manual’ mode
   - The importance of raw and its benefits
   - Settings & the Exposure Triangle
   - Creating and maximising depth of field
   - Exposure bracketing for exposure blending in post processing
   - Focus stacking for improved depth of field
   - Making the most of filters and the benefits they can deliver (including long exposures)
   - Compositional rules and their importance
   - Finding dynamic compositions that capture the essence of a location

Again, there is flexibility in the location from the icons of Durdle Door, Corfe Castle, Portland Bill & Kimmeridge, to lesser known gems a little way from the beaten track such as Mupe Bay, Chapman’s Pool and of course, Dorset’s hidden woodlands.

Dorset Photography Tour

The Dorset Photography tour is a 4-day, 3-night long weekend residential workshop based in Wareham and tutored by LPOTY winners, Antony Spencer and Chris Frost. Both have won the hugely prestigious LPOTY award and both are very accomplished photographers with a wealth of experience to share and teach.

Dorset offers a veritable feast of photographic opportunity. From the rugged yet beautiful Jurassic Coastline, a UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching from Old Harry Rocks to the quintessentially English seaside resort of Lyme Regis on the Dorset/Devon border, to the iconic Corfe Castle as it rises above swirling mists and further inland to the tranquillity of its magical woodlands.

The tour will allow participants to experience a variety of locations. As well as the icons of Durdle Door, Corfe Castle, Portland Bill & Kimmeridge, we’ll look to get off the beaten track and visit lesser-known locations such as Mupe Bay, Chapman’s Pool and some of Dorset’s hidden woodlands. This variety will provide participants ample opportunity to improve their technical, compositional and artistic skills, and is suited to all levels from beginner through to the more experienced photographer.

We will depart and return to our base in Wareham, keeping a flexible approach to each day’s itinerary, choosing locations that capitalise on the most favourable weather and tidal conditions - October is a fantastic time to be a landscape photographer in Dorset. Early Autumn brings with it an increased possibility of mornings blanketed in mist, changing foliage colours and storm driven waves ravaging the coastline. Sunrise and sunset positions will also have moved south and are perfectly aligned for the majority of locations on the predominantly south-facing Jurassic coast.

Being long-time residents of Dorset, Antony and Chris bring a wealth of local area knowledge and will work hard to ensure you are in the best possible locations to capture dramatic and atmospheric images of this stunning County.

Some coastal locations will require a moderate walk over hilly and uneven terrain so reasonable fitness levels will be required.

This weekend workshop will be spent exploring some of the most spectacular and rugged coastline to be found anywhere in the UK. Based at Land's End, we will be perfectly placed to explore some of the best coastal landscapes such as Land's End, Porthcurno and Porth Nanven, as well as a few hidden gems also.

The Atlantic coastline has carved some truly photogenic locations in this part of the world. We will be photographing big vistas through to some very intimate scenes such as the granite boulders of Porth Nanven and beyond.

This workshop will be led by Antony Spencer & Chris Frost. Both have won the hugely prestigious LPOTY award and both are very accomplished photographers with a wealth of experience to share and teach. Various techniques will be explored, especially the use of filters and long exposure photography.

In November the seas are generally larger and angrier than the middle of the year and we will use this to our advantage, making dramatic landscape images along this wonderful coastline.

Please note that we will be photographing from clifftops and descending down to beaches where rocks etc may be slippery underfoot. A moderate level of fitness will be required to participate on this tour.
